Dear Co-Laborers In Christ,
In our highly politicized society, we often hear “Go Vote! It’s everyone’s responsibility to vote!” A key political strategy is: “Get out the vote!” People are encouraged to register to vote. Prior to elections we often find voter guides on our windshields stating the positions of candidates so we know how to vote with an appeal for us to vote. Our voice mailboxes are filled with messages from candidates urging us to vote for them.” Millions of dollars are spent in every election by candidates to encourage people to vote for them. Election dates are set. Polling places are identified and the voting process is secured. Debates, arguments, protests, lobbying take place. Get out to vote!
I find it very interesting that Americans view voting almost as a sacred privilege, participating in the process of expressing their opinions or making choices that will affect the nation, while at the same time fail to attend church business meetings, participate in discussions, fail to express their opinions and choices, and do not vote on issues concerning the future of their church. There is much apathy among Christians when it comes to weighing in on the issues the church is facing. There are times when churches cannot get a quorum of members at a business meeting to take action and vote on issues. It seems to me that there is more commitment to local and national politics than there is to the kingdom of God. Don’t you think there should be more than 40 out 250 members voting on important decisions during church business meetings? Can you image if only 20% of the registered voters turn out for the mid-term elections in November this year?
I encourage you to be a responsible member of Windsor Baptist Church by attending business meetings, engaging in the discussions and voting your conscience. There are two opportunities this summer for you to do so. A congregational business meeting is scheduled for WEDNESDAY JUNE 13th at 7 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to approve the 2018-19 operating budget and to amend the constitution.
On TUESDAY, JULY 31st at 7 PM, the ANNUAL MEETING of Windsor Baptist Church has been scheduled. The purpose of this meeting is to review the Kingdom Work of the church and schools from the last fiscal year. This meeting will provide updates on the future direction of Windsor Baptist Church and schools. Your input is essential.
Your voice counts, we trust in the Holy Spirit to guide Christ’s church and we trust that this guidance is communicated through people like you when we meet together. Your vote counts. I am asking for you to support the work of this church by attending the two congregational business meetings this summer and voting on the business at hand. We need you. Thank you.
Prayerfully,
Pastor Chaya
